Cascada de Flores (Music) Arwen Lawrence (voice) and Jorge Liceaga (guitar) are the creative force behind the music ensemble Cascada de Flores, celebrated for artfully combining old classics from Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico (bolero, canción, ranchera) with traditional poetic music from the countryside (son). The duet performs on a dizzying number of traditional instruments, such as tres cubano, guitarra de son and jarana of Veracruz, vihuela, accordion, donkey's jaw bone and percussive dance. Cascada de Flores' muses include the earthiest of duos of the traditional Cuban Trova: the late Maria Teresa Vera and Lorenzo Hierrezuelo, as well as Los Compadres, Las Hermanas Mendoza of Texas, Toña La Negra of Veracruz and many maestros of Mexican and Cuban traditional music. For 10 years, Cascada de Flores has reached diverse audiences through a variety of live performances, ranging from the local to the international arena. They also enjoy creative collaborations, recording projects, community outreach activities and in-school programs and workshops.
