Oval storage ottoman – You can upholster a storage ottoman with the same techniques you would use to upholster a headboard or any flat piece of furniture. The only difference is that you need to cover your staples at the base and hide the center without finishing at the top. Transform your normal storage wooden ottoman into an upholstered piece of furniture. Remove the lid from the base of the ottoman. If the top is joined with hinges, remove the screws and hinges on the base and cover. Remove feet, wheels and any other hardware.
Measure the top and base of your ottoman. Cut a sheet of fabric and batting to cover the outside of the base, including the bottom. Plan to bring your cloth and batting 2 to 3 inches inside the top edge of the base. Cut a sheet of cloth and batting to fit on top of the ottoman, including 3 inches at the bottom of the top. If you are going to include a padded seat for your storage ottoman, cut a section of foam to fit the top.
Upholster the base of your ottoman by placing your fabric face down on a flat surface, spraying adhesive on the back and placing the batting you cut with the same size on top of the adhesive. Spray adhesive on top of the wadding that is facing up and the center of the ottoman finger base on top.
